Fernfoot smiled as she watched Fernstep heading toward them. Following the warrior's gaze, Fernfoot gazed with pride at the large fresh-kill pile behnd them. She could see that the size would surprise anyone.
She turned to look back at the cream and brown warrior. Breaking into a large smile, she laughed. "Not all of it. Just about." she replied, giving one front paw a couple of licks. The warrior flicked her tail, the long fur giving the shadow that was thrown across the clearing a rather untidy look. The warrior looked up as the patrol headed in. They too had a lot of prey. The warrior beamed; no cat of Mistclan would go hungry tonight.

Sunwing touched noses with Fernfoot and Fernstep and departed. She needed to take care of a few things in the Clan, the worry of starvation long gone. But what about the other Clans? An empty feeling inside the very pit of Sunwings stomach. It was something alien to her, yet it seemed to tell her that something was very wrong. Something that hadn't come yet, but would soon arrive. She pushed her thoughts away and began to focus on a more important duty, her Clans needs.
Fernstep sat silently by Fernfoot, her tail brushing the ground in a slow rhythm. It was hard spending so much time with Sunwing. At times she would catch Rowanpaw prancing by her side, it would only be Sunwing. But that did not change her friendship with her best friend, Sunwing would always be at her side when she needed.
The sunny day faded, and starpelt soon rose in the sky, brightening the camp with a soft twinkle. Soft croaks of crickets called to each other in the distance. Fernstep found her way into the warriors den and settled down next to an exhausted Sunwing. The cool moss gave sleep an easy path to the cats, and they were soon fast asleep.

As the land of the Mistclan cats was cloaked in darkness, Fernfoot thought about the Clan itself. It was not a subject that she got deep into most of the time. The naming of a new deputy was usually a sad event. However, some cats had seemed relieved! Did they think that Sunwing could be a better deputy than the previous she-cat? The warrior shook her head. Matters like this seemed too complicated at times.
Glancing around, Fernfoot realized that it was quiet. She had not noticed the level of chatter as it slowly dwindled into nothingness. She was the only cat left in the clearing. Surrounded by only moon-bathed forest, she suddenly felt lonely. A cool breeze ruffled her fur, another example of how alone she actually was. Suddenly, she longed for the company of the Clan that could always be found at the camp during the day. The silence felt as if it would swallow her up into nothingness. She turned her head upward, gazing at the long stretch of black expanse known as Starpelt. Eyes filled with moonlight, the feline dipped her head in a silent prayer. /Keep the Clan safe StarClan./
With that, the she-cat left the lonely clearing for the warrior's den. Locating her familiar nest, she curled up and closed her eyes. The waves of sleep were high tonight; she was asleep within minutes.
