Twilightshadow sat by Cloud Pool meditatively. She needed time to think; her thoughts were confused. She needed to rearrange them, and try to find some answers to the questions that were bouncing around her head.
First and foremost in her thoughts was this: Why had Silverstar chosen her to be deputy? She wasn't even Clan-born, she had rogue blood, she was impulsive at times. Admittedly, she could keep her head in violent situations, both literally and figuratively. She was a fair hand at tactics. But still, balanced against the fact that, despite her proving it over and over again, half the Clan didn't trust her... She didn't even trust herself. If He showed up with a group of rogues and attacked the camp, would she really be able to put away her need for revenge and aid the Clan in a better way? She was afraid she wouldn't be, and didn't want to find out. Would the urge to kill overwhelm her Clan loyalty as nothing else could?
Another thing bothering her was the thought of Him. Did he know where she was? Was he even still alive? If he was, would he try to find her, or forget about her? He probably thought she was dead. Where was he? She didn't like not knowing where he was, it made her feel vulnerable.
Twilightshadow watched the fish dance in the clear, still pool. A pair of mallards and three ducklings glided across the mirror-smooth surface, sending ripples lapping against the shore. They probably didn't notice her. She'd been still for long enough that, to anything non-feline, she'd probably faded back into the undergrowth, one plant among many. Normally, the sight of the ducklings would have made her salivate, but she wasn't hungry. The stillness of the pond almost unnerved her. She half-wished that someone or something would break the silence.

Spiritstep padded silently through the undergrowth, amazed by the sun the burst through the clouds like golden dust. She tried to imagine what it would feel like to fly on such a beautiful day, her thoughts disturbed by the occasional loud alarm call of a startled bird. The last of the snow lay huddled in clumps under the juniper and sage bushes, slowly becoming one with the earth. Raindrops fell from the newly grown leaves, their greenness brightening up the entire moor. Her indigo eyes scanned the first colors of spring, rising up from the depths of the earth. Her paws guided her over one rise, and down the other. Usually she loved to run, to nfeel the wind sworl around her paws like gentle touches. But today, she was frozen with the silent awe of spring.
She spotted a shape crouching beside the side of the cloud pool. She padded over, realizing that the shape was Twilightshadow, the Stoneclan deputy. She hesitated for a second, then trotted to the edge of the pool beside Twilightshadow. She took a few laps of the sweet water, then looked to Twilightshadow. "Isn't it incredible how one day the earth is dying under a death grop of snow, and the next day it's full of life?" She took a deep breath of the honey-tasting air.

The sun shone through Sunfall's grey fur as he padded through the forest. Scents of all kinds of things wafted through the air, but not goldenrod. He sighed and looked round for the herb, but there was no scent of it. Sighing, he sat down on the ground and stared into the distance, thinking. After a while, the sound of voices drifted over to his ears, and he recognised the scent and sound of Spiritstep. Stretching, he stood up and turned his head towards the sound. Through the trees, he made out the shapes of the cats. He paused, then called out a greeting and went to sit with them. The medicine cat looked at the two cats, Twilightshadow was hunched by the pool, Spiritstep sat on the edge, scenting the air. Nodding in greeting to the two cats, the gray tom lowered himself onto his haunches and shifted his weight so he was comfortable on the moor. His green eyes gazed calmly at the two cats while the the sunlight that shone through the trees dappled his storm colored fur.

Spiritstep smiled at the approaching tom. Pulling her attention away from Twilightshadow, she nodded back at Sunfall. "How is the herb gathering going?" She asked. She predicted that since the snow was almost completely melted, the herbs would start to come back to life. But she still looked toward Sunfall with an eager expression.

Sunfall blinked in greeting to the she-cat, then looked to the deputy who hadn't responded to his arrival. He shrugged, then looked back at Spiritstep and answered her question. "Its fine, I've actually managed to find some of most things except goldenrod, which is what I came out here to find. I smelt you so I came over." His green gaze travelled back over to the deputy and he murmered to Spiritstep "Is she ok?"

Spiritstep looked back to Twilightshadow. "I think so. But she's been quiet for days...."
She clenched her jaw in grief. Once again the memory of her beloved Snowstorm flashed in her mind, but she shook it away. Desperate to not let herself think of her former lover, she turned to Sunfall. "I'll help you find the GoldenRod."
She turned and padded away from the pool, her nose tasting the air for a scent of GoldenRod. She turned herself away from the other cats as she searched. She didn't want them to see her cry.

Sunfall looked at her as she padded away, sensing the sadness that was overwhelming her. He wasn't suprised, the death of Snowstorm had hit her hard. Glancing once at Twilightshadow, he padded after Spiritstep and scented the air, wondering if there was any goldenrod around. "Thanks" he said as he passed Spiritstep, looking round at the plants to see if any were goldenrod.

A feline picked her way through the forest, her eyes darting from one direction to the next. Ears pricked each time a twig cracked; however, she did nothing. She already had prey. A squirrel hung from her mouth, it's tail dangling close to the ground. She had also caught a mouse earlier, but had eaten it. /The Clan will be fine./ she reasoned as she had swallowed the last bit of still-warm prey. Her belly now full, she had continued on.
That had been hours ago. The scent had now faded from her ginger and cream pelt, leaving no trace of the mouse. The she-cat turned her head slowly, her eyes flashing as she caught faint murmurs of voices....voices she knew. The young warrior began to pad toward the two voices, her tail tip flicking.
As Goldenpool emerged over a hill, she dropped her squirrel to observe the cats below her. She reconized them: Spiritstep and Sunfall. They were both older than her, a mere, new warrior. She flicked her ear in irritation as she sat down. "Hello!" she called out, her voice filled with fake cheerfulness.

Spiritstep glanced up the rise as she shape of Goldenpool appeared. She wiped her eyes with a cream-booted paw, and called back, "hello."
She continued to search the surrounding bushes for the familiar golden herb. The sun shone brightly from the sky, making her chest tighten with pain. Snowstorm's gone... and it seems as if no one cares but me. Not even the sky. Tears began to run down her face once more, and the pain once again gripped her chest with cold fingers.
She looked back to Sunfall and Goldenpool. "I-I have to go. Good luck." With tears trailing behind her, she bounded away.

Puzzled, Goldenpool watched the she-cat bound away. For a moment she stood there on the ridge. Was it something she had said? The she-cat's eyes were filled with confusion before being swept away into indifference. Oh well. Who knew with that cat?
The she-cat picked up her squirrel before picking her way slowly down the ridge once more. The sunlight hit her pelt just right, lighting up the golden-yellow hues of her fur.

Silverstar meandered around a small bend in the forest. Her ears pricked cautiously, she planned on having time to herself just to plan out where Stoneclan was headed. To sort out recent events, and listen to any signs that might help her see what would happen next. All together, it was a process she needed to carry out on her own, no medicine cat or warriors to help her.
A sudden figure flashed by, and Silverstar sensed something was wrong. Darting towards the running cat, she managed to make her way ahead of it. It was Spiritstep. A pang of sympathy ran through her, but she pushed her away, Spiritstep had never liked being sympathized. Spiritstep had stopped, tears streaming down her face, and she tried to hold them back.
Licking the top of Spiritsteps head, Silver hoped the hurt she-cat would calm down. She seemed to know exactly what Spiritstep had in mind, and spoke softly to her, "Spiritstep. We have tried everything to find Snowstorm. But even with more than half of our Clan having searched for him, there was not one hint. There were absolutely no traces towards his dissapearance, and I know that you understand that. We have done everything to find him, but he isn't the only one to have gone missing. I have word that Mistclans deputy went missing, and whatever they went missing for, there is a much larger picture. I guarantee we will find him again, but until then..." she finished. She knew Spiritstep would understand, and trusted her.
Stepping aside for the young she-cat to pass, she dipped her head and continued on. Her only hope was that Spiritstep would someday get over Snowstorms disappearance, their small Clan couldn't afford to have such an important warrior lost to grief.
