Swiftrunner dashed into the Medicine cats den, a look of pain and confusion on her small and beautiful face. Her figure showed passion and strength as she settled herself around, constantly shuffling. Her tail flicked of impatients and her eyes became slits trying to endure the pain the nipped at her. "Frostfeather? Frostfeather?!" her calls became louder and more demanding as she waited for the young medicine cat.
Her hair began to stand on end, her stomach had been bothering her for a small portion of the day, yet it seemed to scream with pain now. She was nautious and weak, yet where had this come from. Had she ate something bad, or drank something wrong? The answer lay tucked deep within her mind, it had been only seven sundowns since she had seen Night. The painful decision had left her at a loss, and knowing that she would never see him again hurt her heart. Yet the naseua was only the early sign of something else.

OOc: Heh. Um..... I'm afraid to say that Longstride is not a medicine cat, but a deputy.

OOc: But I can reply!
Bic: A slim figure darted into the main cavern, sparkling droplets of water darkening her calico fur. The she-cat gave a small snort of disapproval, shaking one paw to rid it of the annoying liquid. Yes, she did live behind a waterfall, but it wasn't like she had to enjoy being doused every moment of the day.
Sharp eyes flickered around the cavern, taking in each sight. Cats laughing, dozing, or talking. Everything was well in the camp of Mistclan. It was, anyway, to Longstride's perspection.
The deputy padded along the cool stone, her tail held high in a question mark greeting that was well-known to many. Her slim yet strong figure cast a long shadow behind her, making her appear frightfully large. Cats dipped their heads in respect as Longstride headed past them; she was the deputy, and deserved at least some respect. As a large rabbit was dropped onto the fresh-kill pile, a sort of yowling noise caused Longstride to look around the cavern, an alert expression on her face. She traced the noise back to the dark medicine cat den in a few heartbeats. /I wonder.../ she thought, curiousity getting the better of her. The she-cat turned from the tempting prey and headed for Frostfeather's den.
"Why are you making all that noise Swiftrunner?" the she-cat meowed as soon as she reached the medicine cat den. Her eyes were still adjusting to the gloom, but her nose was in perfect order. This was a question that demanded an answer; Longstride would not leave without one.

Swiftrunner flushed with pain, and now embarrassment went quiet, "Longstride…I, I'm sick and Frostfeather is not here," her stutter shows she is not telling the entire truth, but enough told. "I was only hoping for something to ease the pain," she pauses, "and an explanation. Swiftrunners tail flicks from side to side in anticipation, followed by et another wince.
She rambles on, "Perhaps I should lye down. Oh Longstride, I'm sorry to disturbed the camp, next time I will wait."

The deputy now studied the she-cat with a thoughtful eye. Slowly she touched her nose the the warrior's ear tip. The she-cat was burning up; yes, she was sick. A look of slight contentment now spread across Longstride's face as she gave a quick nod. "I'm sorry. I didn't realize that you were sick. Don't worry about the noise Swiftrunner." she meowed.
The she-cat looked around the den slowly. No medicine cat in sight, however. "I'll be back Swiftrunner. Lay down; it may help." she meowed, heading for the main cavern. "Frostfeather!" her voice called, the echo of it her only response.

Wrenstar leapt from her high ledge and seemed to float to the ground, landing on delicate, golden paws. She looked over to the mysterious she-cat, Swiftrunner. She knew that Swiftrunner was not always honest with her leader and her Clan, but had hopes that the she-cat would confide in her when she was ready.
Wrenstar bounded over to the pretty she-cat, resting her nose upon Swiftrunner's head for a moment. "You have a fever! And by the look of it, something wrong with your stomach. Come!" Wrenstar led Swiftrunner into the Medicine Cat den, laying her down on some moss before turning to Longstride. "Go find Frostfeather. She's probably out looking for herbs." She peered out of the den once Longstride had gone and called over the first cat she saw. "Copperfur, come help me!" The copper-colored tom rushed into the den, and Wrenstar handed him a piece of moss. "Here, soak this in water and cool off her forehead. Whatever she ate... her body's having a bad reaction to."
Copperfur quickly soaked the moss in a small pool inside the den, than gently dabbed Swiftrunner's forehead. "Just relax," he told her hearing her pounding heart. His forest-green eyes were filled with concern for the beautiful warrior. He watched at Wrenstar was looking through the herb supply.
Wrenstar returned with her mouth full of yellow leaves. "Help me move her." Wrenstar directed Copperfur. They moved Swiftrunner off the moss bed and over to a pile of leaves. Wrenstar placed the leaves in-front of Swiftrunner; it was Yarrow. "Swiftrunner," she spoke, her voice calm. "I want you to try and eat most of these leaves. Try to keep your mouth over these leaves."
Copperfur followed his leader's orders, watching as she placed the leaves in-front of Swiftrunner. He placed his tail on Swiftrunner's shoulder to calm her; a gesture he rarely used because of his shy nature. He looked at his leader with respect. How does she know so much about herbs?

Swiftrunner quickly lay down, her head seemed to swim when she tried thinking about what was happening. Paws unable to hold her up any longer, she felt as if she could close her eyes and sleep forevor. But she couldn't. Forcing herself to regain enough conciousness, despite the banging pain within her head and sick feeling within her stomach, she soaked in the scene before her. Wrenstar was quickly gathering herbs while Copperfur looked at her with calm eyes, yet his anxious tail told it all, panic. When did Wrenstar know so much about herbs? Wincing she closed her eyes again.
"Wrenstar," she paused to make sure her decision was final, "May I have a word with you once I wake?"
Swiftrunner could feel her blood pulse through her limbs as she slowly decended into sleep.

Wrenstar stood back, her golden stare now filled with understanding. This wasn't a physical sickness, but a mental one. One that involved the heart. She nodded with understanding as Copperfur fixed her with a questioning, olive gaze. "Yes Swiftrunner. Just call when you need to see me, and I'll be right here." Her tone sounded almost motherly. She placed some Poppyseeds beside Swiftrunner to help her sleep, than left the den. "It's okay, Copperfur. Let her sleep," Wrenstar whispered over her shoulder as she emerged back out into the main cavern.
Copperfur padded hesitantly toward the exit, glancing over his shoulder. What was that all about?

Swiftrunner woke by late afternoon, the sun had turned an orange tone, shooting a ray of dim light through the Clan. The soft nest below Swiftrunner almost rocked her back to sleep, but with the motivation to stay helpful to her Clan, she yawned and stretched, and quickly swallowed the poppyseeds placed carefully by her side. The realizatin of the incidents yesterday seemed to catch up in slow motion but with a sigh Swiftrunner peered quietly at the center of camp from behind the brambles covering the medicine cats den. A few cats lay on soft dry grass and shared tongues, while others gave themselves a good cleaning.
Swiftrunner danced through camp, despite the sickening feeling within her stomach she was able to look quite healthy towards the other Clan cats. But the shameful truth that she knew she could not escape sent her mind acheing. She had not been loyal to Echoclan, she had broken the warrior code by meeting Night every night by the fox den, she would remain guilty, and if she was indeed expecting kits, they would be shamed as well.

Copperfur sat alone beside the North wall face of the Main Cavern. His olive eyes watching the activity of camp, paws tucked beneath his muscular chest. Again he felt it, the jealousy that squirmed inside him like a thrashing snake. The longing to truly belong in a Clan. But he had loner blood; it was like he was contaminated. No matter how many times he tried to prove himself, he always ended up as "the dirty rogue". His eyes traced Swiftrunner's slender figure as she emerged from the Medicine Cat den. Why did she look so concerned? At least she was accepted. Even if she betrayed her Clan, she would always be a warrior. She had the blood. She had the purity.
Guilt gnawed at the pit of his stomach as he remembered the way he had been repaying Wrenstar for her kindness toward him. Almost every night now, he left camp and searched the trees just over the border with the Gnarled Forest. But he never caught sight of the beautiful, black she-cat he had once viewed. He had to convince himself that what he'd seen wasn't a dream, but never again had he seen her hauntingly beautiful eyes, or black-as-night fur that carried no scent. I have to find her! I feel as if she was calling me... calling me into the Gnarled Forest. He decided that he'd leave early tonight, and venture further into the trees than he'd ever gone before.
Wrenstar padded into camp, her lioness-like fur reflecting the sun like a living mirror. A plump jay dangled from her jaws, and she padded toward Swiftrunner. Gesturing with her tail for Swiftrunner to follow, Wrenstar bounded to the tom of the pile of stones that made a stairway to the highledge, and her den. With one last golden cast back down into the camp, she disappeared into her den. She placed the jay upon the ground where Swiftrunner would probably sit, Wrenstar crossed over to her nest and settled into the nest of moss and feathers, daintily crossing her paws in front of her.

Swiftrunner looked up at the leader, her eyes eager and cloudy. Scenting the fresh kill before seeing it, she followed Wrenstar quietly, planning out how she would state her theory winding itself through her mind.
Now in Wrenstars den, Swiftrunner sat silently, tail wrapped around her front two paws. "Wrenstar, I..." she started, the information she had just organized now everwhere.
With a sigh of relief she decided she'd tell her exactly what was bothering her,"Wrenstar I believe I'm expecting kits," and she held her breathe.

'Wrenstar, I... I believe I'm expecting kits.'
Wrenstar clenched her jaw, but no look of surprise blanketed her face. She had been aware of the warm, milky scent that followed Swiftrunner around camp like a kit. Wrenstar had also sensed Swiftrunner's guilt, and that she was sneaking out of camp. But Wrenstar showed no anger, no wrath, no disappointment. She nodded her golden head, warm amber eyes watching Swiftrunner with a trace of pride. "Swiftrunner, I'm glad you were able to confide in me. You also showed great courage in returning to camp. I was aware of your absence, and this news hasn't come to me as a surprise."
Swiftrunner looked at her with a questioning gaze. Wrenstar smiled, "I believe that a cat has the right to make their own decisions. I am not going to punish you, Swiftrunner, because you made up for your actions by confiding in me, and coming back to camp. You and you kits will never be questioned for loyalty, and never will. "However, I must warn you that there is one matter we must sort out. That is the matter of your mate. I need to come with you and meet with him to decide the future of the kits. Since they are your and his, I am letting you decide where they will be raised, and by who."
Wrenstar finished and set Swiftrunner with her sunshine gaze, waiting for her reaction.

No disapointment, no anger, no anoyance, just understanding and acceptance. Wrenstar knew she had been with a tom, and had not punished her for it. Swiftrunner exhaled slowly, feeling a bit light headed, but continued to pay attention to her leader. But how could she show her leader the cat who ran away from the very same camp they were in now, and not only that, would she be able to find him after he left.
Looking at her paws for a bried second, Swiftrunner held Wrenstars serious gaze, "Wrenstar, I will try to find him, but it may be harder than you think. I stopped meeting him half a moon ago, we agreed to stay apart. He could be a journey away by now."

Wrenstar nodded, her face expressionless as she studied Swiftrunner's features. It was odd that Swiftrunner seemed almost scared to confront her mate. Wrenstar thought back to the cats who had been banished from the Clan before she became leader, and guessed Swiftrunner's mate was an exile. Wrenstar stood and crouched down beside Swiftrunner, touching her shoulder with her tail-tip in a gesture of comfort. Swiftrunner's fur had a milky essence.
"Swiftrunner, are you fit to travel? I believe you must go and find your mate immediately, but I'm not going to let you go alone." Wrenstar stood, a loose beam of sun setting her fur in a golden flame. "That's why I'm coming with you."
